Amadeus

Details: 1984, USA, Cert PG, 160 mins, Drama / Period, Dir: Milos Forman

With: Elizabeth Berridge, F Murray Abraham, Roy Dotrice, Simon Callow, Tom Hulce

Summary: Composer Antonio Salieri cannot understand why God should bless such a boorish, young twit called Mozart with musical genius.

One of the greatest movies of all time. Amadeus is a film about two composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salerie. The movie is basically about Salerie who has worked hard and sacrificed much to God in order to perform music, even a vow of chastity. Mozart though is the young and crazy genius, arrogant, rude but brilliant. So this of course clashes with the self-sacrificial view of Saleri.

The major theme in this movie is the jealousy of Salieri, and how it consumed his every waking thought. It is somewhat depressing because it also shows all the hard work of Salieri with no success and the ease of Mozart's ability when to him composing music is quite easy.

See the movie even if you’re not a Mozart-ian. It’s more than just music, it’s more than just a movie, and it’s more than just men. It is, in a way, the greatest portrait of the many loves (or emotions, whatever runs your boat) between two ‘competing’ men.
